February 2, 2014 – Charlottesville Newsplex reports on the LolliPOPS at The Paramount
The Paramount Theater turned into a petting zoo on Sunday as children got a chance to explore instruments found in a symphony.
The Richmond Symphony performed at the Paramount during their “Lollipops” program.
Before the show kids were able to walk around, touch and hear different instruments, like a petting zoo.
The executive director at the Paramount hopes that it will inspire kids to become musicians like the ones they saw on stage.
“They get to touch and play instruments that they never had access to before and we’re hoping that just a few moments with that instrument might spark something in them to want to play throughout their life,” says Chris Eure, executive director.
“I play not only the violin, but other instruments,” says 12-year-old Ivy Williams. “Last year I was one of the kids who looked at the instruments, so it was different and definitely fun.”
This is the second year that the Paramount has put on the “Lollipops” event.

Yahoo Travel reviewed the top ten college towns in America and Charlottesville made it as No. 2 behind Burlington, VT. And guess what one of the biggest reasons was?! The Paramount! Check it out:
No. 2 Charlottesville, VA
What do Tina Fey, Bobby Kennedy, and Tiki Barber have in common? All are alums of the University of Virginia. The diversity of graduates hints at the town’s something-for-everyone appeal. History buffs flock to Monticello, while culture hounds stroll the charming downtown pedestrian mall, with restaurants, an ice-skating rink, and the renovated Paramount Theater, where you can see everything from the Moscow Ballet to up-and-coming bands (Dave Matthews Band got its start here in the early ’90s).
Wynonna and the Big Noise are on tour for Christmas and The Paramount was one of the stops recently featured in this article in Country Weekly.
Brown Toyota will present Wynonna and The Big Noise who will perform at The Paramount Theater as part of their National Tour, A Simpler Christmas on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 8pm. The “A Simpler Christmas” Tour will be an intimate and joyous performance that will showcase Wynonna’s legendary voice in a set of inspirational Christmas favorites, plus some of her greatest hits.
Wynonna & The Big Noise kick off their “A Simpler Christmas” tour December 3 in Bakersfield, CA with dates running through December 22 including their stop in Charlottesville at The Paramount on December 20. “The holidays are a hectic time of year for so many,” says WYNONNA. “The guys and I are excited to give fans a chance to experience the simpler sounds of the season.” Finely etched musical arrangements by her band will put WYNONNA’s voice front and center for what promises to be a truly memorable evening of music and holiday magic.
About Wynonna: Five-time Grammy winner and New York Times bestselling author, Wynonna has always revolved her career around telling stories. Whether performing alongside her mother as one half of the legendary duo The Judds, or pushing the boundaries on her own mega-successful solo path, Wynonna’s ability to reach the heart of the human spirit through her bold and unflinching honesty, is the entertainer’s true gift.
Respected by the millions of fans who are drawn to her music and her undeniable talent, Wynonna’s rich and commanding voice has sold over 30 million albums worldwide spanning her epic 30-year career. Charting countless singles including 20 #1 hits and over 60 industry awards, the iconic performer was once dubbed by Rolling Stone as “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline.”
Joined in the studio by her husband, bandleader and producer, Michael “Cactus” Moser, Wynonna’s highly anticipated eighth studio album is scheduled for release this year. This effort, known as a true labor of love, features her new single “Something You Can’t Live Without” released by Curb Records.
Most recently, with her stint on ABC’s juggernaut show “Dancing With the Stars,” her novel Restless Heart in stores and The Judds docu-series debuting with enormous television ratings on the Oprah Winfrey Network in 2011, you can bet Wynonna’s fans will be watching very closely as she writes this next chapter of her legendary career.
