The annual 138th Run for the Roses™ has provided the awe-inspiring spectacle of majestic 3-year old thoroughbreds going head-to-head in one of horse racing’s most celebrated events. Until the advent of television, a relatively few got to actually see it: the wealthy could sit in Millionaire’s Row; for a little less, a ticket to the infield could be bought; and after 1952 anyone with a television could view the race.
Beginning in 1952, anyone with a television could watch the race in distant black and white. Then there came color television. Now, The Paramount presents the 2012 Kentucky Derby with spectacular clarity of high-definition on one of the largest screens in Central Virginia. See all the pageantry and tradition of race day, from interviews with trainers and jockeys, the sights of attendees dressed in all their race-day finery, the parade of horses and finally what’s been called the greatest two minutes in sports – the race itself!
