Through historical archives and anecdotal stories from longtime employees and library patrons, filmmaker Lorenzo Dickerson explores the first 100 years of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library. The film traces JMRL’s growth from its founding in 1921 as a whites-only institution to the expansion into a regional library system serving five jurisdictions to the present day challenge of continuing library service during the pandemic.
Maupintown Media is a film production company based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Maupintown produces original documentary films that tell stories of historical, social, and educational value. Maupintown films have played in various film festivals and broadcast on PBS.
Jefferson-Madison Regional Library serves a population of over 200,000 residents in five jurisdictions–Albemarle, Greene, Nelson, and Louisa counties, and the City of Charlottesville–with nine locations and the Bookmobile. With combined holdings of 500,000 items, the library circulates over 1,600,000 items annually. Library users have access to online databases and downloadable books 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. JMRL fosters personal growth and life-long learning for all by connecting people with ideas, information, and each other.
