Malevo: The Argentinian Malambo Sensations
DATE Wednesday, October 16
- 10:30 am
GRADES Grades 6 & Up
MALEVO – the “South American Sensation” – is an all-male group elevating Malambo (the traditional folk dance of Argentine Gauchos) with live urban percussion and dance. Testing strength, dexterity and agility, elements of flamenco, tango and Irish step dance meet and the result is a performance that not only pushes the Malambo style beyond its limits but gives audiences an extraordinary visual and sensory theatrical experience unlike any other. Choreography combines the use of boleadoras, a leather and stone hunting tool used by Gauchos, with fast leg movements, energetic zapateados (stomping), and quick cepillados (“brushing”/”scrubbing”). Named an official “Cultural Ambassador to the National Identity of Argentina”, MALEVO has earned international acclaim and were semi-finalists on America’s Got Talent.
