Performances Run September 19-21, Tickets on Sale July 12 at 10 am
A powerful force of change is making its way across North America this fall. Stopping for a run at Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater from September 19 to 21, Menopause The Musical Out Loud Tour™:Breaking the Silence of Ovarian Cancer! joyfully and hilariously parodies over two dozen of the classic “baby boomer” songs of the ‘60s and ‘70s, among them “I Heard It Through the Grapevine, You No Longer See 39” and the disco-flavored “Stayin’ Awake Stayin’ Awake!”
The Out Loud tour is presented by the Jeanie C. Linders Fund by special arrangement with TOC Productions, Inc. in an effort to increase awareness and educate women about ovarian cancer a portion of the proceeds will be donated to local and regional ovarian cancer chapters including the NOCC Greater Richmond Area, Virginia Chapter.
Focused on increasing awareness of the medical, social, and emotional issues faced by millions of women battling ovarian cancer, and educating others about the disease, the inaugural Menopause The Musical Out Loud™tour visited 51 cities across the United States and raised nearly $500,000 to benefit national and local ovarian cancer chapters for research and education.
Tickets for Menopause The Musical Out Loud Tour™ are $45 and $50 and go on sale to the public Saturday, July 12 at 10 am. The show’s Paramount Theater performances will be on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 pm, with matinees on September 20 at 3 pm and Sunday, September 21 at 2 pm. Tickets may be purchased online at www.theparamount.net or through The Paramount’s Box Office at 434.979.1333.
While each and every woman is different -- and has her own menopausal moments -- the Menopause The Musical Out Loud Tour™ shows women that they are not alone. The musical brings Professional Woman, Earth Mother, Soap Star, and Iowa Housewife together at a NYC Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale. These ladies have nothing in common but a black lace bra and hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex, plastic surgery, and more! A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage!”
Traditionally, women have suffered through menopause silently, becoming shrinking violets in comparison to their previous vivacious years. Â Linders is changing this outlook. Linders states, “I feel compelled to help women deal with this issue especially since menopause creates an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease and breast and ovarian cancers. This tour will inspire thousands of women to talk openly about what they are going through and what they can do to improve their health today and in the long term. Women should celebrate every stage of their lives.”
Written and produced by Jeanie Linders, Menopause The Musical® is directed by Kathryn Conte and choreographed by Patty Bender, with musical direction by Alan Plado. The show has entertained audiences across the country and around the globe through performances in more than 150 U.S. cities as well as Australia, Canada, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
To date, more than 10 million people have experienced the show. Each week, nearly 35,000 women of all ages and stages find their spirits lifted by the show’s light-hearted look at menopause.
