Just in time for the holidays, Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater will present a movie weekend on December 8 and 9 featuring two seasonally-themed classics -- A Christmas Story and White Christmas. Both films will be shown in grand style on The Paramount’s movie screen, the largest in Central Virginia.

It’s Christmas 1940 and all 9-year-old Ralph "Ralphie" Parker (Peter Billingsley) wants in A Christmas Story (1983) is an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model BB rifle with a compass in the stock. Between being pursued by the school bully and the responsible adults in his life chorusing that “you’ll shoot your eye out,” Ralphie’s chances of receiving this best of all possible Christmas presents are looking iffy. This fond and comic look at one family’s Christmas, seen through a child’s wide eyes, has become a holiday cult favorite.

In the much-beloved White Christmas, Phil Davis (Danny Kaye), certain that one half of the singing Haynes Sisters (Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen) would be perfect for his buddy Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby), books them all into a Vermont ski lodge which has everything to be a success except snow. When it turns out that the failing lodge is owned by the boys’ revered wartime commander, they do everything they can to help him succeed, including planning a surprise reunion of his old outfit on Christmas Eve. A classic holiday movie with song, dance, and a happy ending, White Christmas was Paramount Pictures top-grossing movie of 1954.

A Christmas Story will show on Saturday, December 8 and White Christmas can be seen on Sunday, December 9. Both films will be screened at 4 and 7 pm on their respective dates.

Admission for all movies is $6, with a Youth/Child price of $4 applying to those 12 and younger. Tickets are available in advance for most showings. Titles and dates are subject to change.
