With a festive theme, sacred and folk music from around the world, and angelic voices, the world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir brings their five hundred year-old vocal tradition to Charlottesville's Paramount Theater for a concert on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:30 pm.

Founded on imperial order by Emperor Maximilian I in 1498, the Vienna Boys Choir has evolved into a group of 100 choristers between the ages of ten and fourteen that are divided into four touring choirs. Each group spends nine to eleven weeks of the school year on tour, with the four choirs giving around 300 concerts and performances annually for nearly half a million people. They visit virtually all European countries, and are frequent guests in Asia, Australia, and the Americas.

The choir’s repertoire includes everything from medieval to contemporary and experimental music, with motets and lieder for boys’ choir forming the core of the touring repertoire. In addition, the choir performs children's operas and major choral and symphonic works. With a goal of introducing the boys to as many different styles of music as possible, the choir has commissioned a number of world music projects as well.

Limited seating remains for the 7:30 pm concert with the Vienna Choir Boys on Wednesday, December 5. Tickets are $41.50, $44.50, $47.50, and $52.50. Youth/Child prices of $36.50, $39.50, $42.50, and $47.50 apply to those aged 12 and under.
