Continuing the theater’s participation in First Fridays, The Paramount is hosting an exhibit featuring the work of local artist Joanne K. Coleman. Both impressionistic and contemporary, Coleman’s acrylic and watercolor paintings have been displayed at UVA, Keller Williams, Noon Whistle Pottery, and Batteau Art Gallery.
Her show at The Paramount will open on Friday, August 3 at 5:30 pm, and be installed in the theater’s ballroom (on the ground level adjacent to the grand lobby) for the month of August.
Coleman paints her interpretation of our natural surroundings guided by her intuitive outlook on life. Her frequent travels abroad and within the United States inspire her paintings, which reflect her view of our beautiful world. She also paints her interpretation of Life in abstract forms. To enhance her choice of colors, texture, and composition, she uses acrylics, acrylic gel mediums, and various pigments (including luminescent) to create unique effects.
Coleman’s recent work shows her enthusiasm for new artistic techniques, which is constantly evolving. The common thread throughout her art is a vibrant energy flow which inspires the viewer to feel a sense of rejuvenation.
Educated at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Pennsylvania, Coleman has taught art locally in the Greene County Public Schools, at Main Street ArtSpace in Stanardsville, and at the Senior Center.
The First Fridays Exhibit featuring the work of Joanne K. Coleman will be open on August 3 from 5:30 to 7 pm. Admission is free.
