"Hysterical and unpredictable" (The New York Times), Chicago City Limits presents an evening of comedy without a net!  New York City’s longest running show takes their act on the road with the new improvisational revue Laughing Matters -- coming to The Paramount Theater on Friday, July 27.  The  special 9 pm show time will help conclude a Fridays After Five evening on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.

Laughing Matters is dedicated to that emotion that keeps us sane and is the ultimate antidote for the craziness of the world.  With plenty of material coming directly from the audience, the evening will be a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience taken directly from audience suggestions.  Original scenes -- everything from mini-musicals to game shows -- will be crafted on the spot.  The result is a side-splitting night of comedy that is totally unique!

Founded in Chicago, Chicago City Limits relocated to New York in 1979 and began performing regularly at some of New York's premiere comedy venues including Catch a Rising Star and The Comic Strip, among others.  The ensemble established its own theater in the summer of 1980, beginning a continuous run that now numbers over 8,500 off-Broadway performances.  An impressive list of guest artists – comics such as Robin Williams, Paul Reiser, Brett Butler, and Bill Irwin – have improvised with the troupe over the years.  The group appears nightly in its own theater at The Improv, NYC’s iconic comedy club.

On tour, Chicago City Limits has appeared at such diverse venues as Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Super Bowl.  Their dozens of TV appearances include segments on The Today Show, The McLaughlin Group, The Joan Rivers Show, The Jackie Mason Show, and Good Day New York, as well as on HBO, Comedy Central, CNN, and CNBC.  The ensemble was featured in its own TV news comedy series, Reel News, on the USA Network.             

Tickets for Chicago City Limits’ Paramount Theater performance of Laughing Matters on Friday, July 27 at 9 pm are $24.50, $27.50, $30.50, and $35.50.  Half-price student rush tickets and group discounts are also available.
