For Immediate Release

November 8, 2006

B.B. King The Paramount Theater and Starr Hill Presents are joining forces to bring a music industry legend to Charlottesville.  It was announced today that blues man B.B. King will take the stage at The Paramount for a performance on February 18 at 8 pm to benefit JABA (Jefferson Area Board for Aging).

The show will go on sale to Paramount Theater members on Monday, November 13 at 10 am, and to the general public on Friday, November 17 at 10 am.

B. B. King’s music -- born of his vision, worried into perfection over years of hard meticulous work -- has shaped and colored the whole of the modern blues to the degree that virtually no performer of the music since his time has escaped the pull of its all-persuasive influence.  He has become the single most popular and successful of all blues performers of modern times.  The real foundation of his music, no less than his great success, has been the direct, earthy fundamentalism of the blues which he continues to perform with a brilliant, fervent “contemporaneity” of feeling as have few others.

Seats for the February 18 benefit with B. B. King are $251, $126, $76, $66, $56.   Anyone who is not currently a member of The Paramount may join when buying tickets and take advantage of the advance purchasing period.

Tickets will be available online  on November 13 and at The Paramount Theater Box Office (434.979.1333).  Starting on November 17, tickets will also be available by phone at 800.594.TIXX (8499) and at all Plan 9 locations.
