The Paramount’s Summer Film Series continues in mid-August with family and comedic classics Old Yeller on Friday, August 18 and Duck Soup on Saturday, August 19.

A family favorite from its initial 1957 release, Disney's Old Yeller is the film that convinced the studio to make more live-action movies. Set in post-Civil War Texas, this quintessential "boy and his dog" drama stars Dorothy McGuire, Fess Parker, and Tommy Kirk. Young Travis Coates (Kirk) is left to take care of the family ranch with his mother and younger brother while his father goes off on a cattle drive. When a yellow mongrel comes for an uninvited stay with the family, Travis reluctantly adopts the dog. After a series of scrapes involving raccoons, snakes, bears and all manner of animals, Travis grows to love and respect Old Yeller, who comes to have a profound effect on the boy's life.
Considered by many to be the best Marx Brothers movie, the political satire Duck Soup (1933) was the last film to feature all four brothers. To rescue the small country of Freedonia from bankruptcy, Mrs. Gloria Teasdale (Margaret Dumont) agrees to donate 20 million dollars if Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho Marx) is appointed as its new president. A cynical, sarcastic dictator who refuses to play politics by the book, Firefly attempts to win the hand of Mrs. Teasdale, as does Ambassador Trentino (Louis Calhern) of the neighboring country, Sylvania. When the two leaders cannot resolve their dispute over the wealthy dowager, war is declared between the countries, and Mrs. Teasdale's house comes under attack.
Old Yeller will show at 4 and 7 pm on Friday, August 18 and Duck Soup will show at 1, 4, and 7 pm on Saturday, August 19. Tickets are $6 (with a Youth/Child price of $4 applying to those 12 and younger). Thetheater's Box Office will also open one hour prior to each showing, and all seats are general admission.
