The Paramount's Summer Film Series continues in mid-August with two family-friendly classics, Mary Poppins on Friday, August 11 and Field of Dreams on Saturday, August 12

Mary Poppins"Practically perfect in every way," Julie Andrew's iconic performance as the title character in Mary Poppins won her the 1965 Academy Award for Best Actress.  Winning four other Oscars that year, the story of a magical English nanny and the profound impact she has on the family in her care is one of Disney’s most beloved films for moviegoers of all ages.  The movie also stars Dick Van Dyke as Mary's friend Bert, Glynis Johns and David Tomlinson as parents Winifred and George Banks, and Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber as children Jane and Michael. Comical and musical, the movie mixed live action with animation decades before such films as Who Framed Roger Rabbit in sequences such as Van Dyke’s performance with some dancing penguins, and the roof top dance of "Chim Chim Cheree."

Field of DreamsWith one of the most famous lines in recent movie history -- "If you build it, he will come" -- the 1989 film Field of Dreams embraces things dear to our national self-image: family, farming, and baseball.  After hearing a voice in his corn field, Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) interprets the mysterious message as an instruction to build a baseball diamond on his farm.  The field conjures the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) and the seven other Chicago White Sox players banned from the game for throwing the 1919 World Series.  When the voices continue, Ray seeks out reclusive author Terence Mann (James Earl Jones) to help him understand the meaning of the messages.  In the last major motion picture of his career, Hollywood legend Burt Lancaster appears in a touching cameo as Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham.  This movie showing is sponsored by Charlottesville's ESPN 840.

Mary Poppins will show at 1, 4, and 7 pm on Friday, August 11 and Field of Dreams will show at 4 and 7 pm on Saturday, August 12.  Tickets are $6 (with a Youth/Child price of $4 applying to those 12 and younger) and are available in advance through the theater's Box Office The Box Office will also open one hour prior to each showing, and all seats are general admission.
