An event partnering The Paramount with Afton's Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery will provide an opportunity to enjoy good music and good wine while benefiting Charlottesville’s historic theater. 

On Saturday, August 5, The Jan Smith Band will perform at Cardinal Point from 2 to 6 pm as part of their Summer Concert Series.  Vocalist and acoustic guitarist Peyton Tochterman will follow from 6 to 8 pm.  Patrons are invited to bring a picnic basket and spend the day in the vineyard's beautiful setting at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Proceeds from the event will benefit The Paramount Theater.

Based in Charlottesville, Jan Smith has begun spreading word of her fresh roots/Americana music far beyond her hometown.  She has played many of Virginia’s most prestigious events and venues, and made regional and national stops including Boston’s Club Passim, New York City's The Living Room, Charlotte's The Evening Muse, and San Francisco's The Make-Out Room.  Smith's style distills elements of acoustic-pop, jazz, and blues in live performances founded on the substance of her lyrics, the grace and durability of her melodies, and the moving quality of her voice. 

Peyton Tochterman has performed with Old School Freight Train, John Stone, Adrienne Young, and Little Sadie.  He is co-founder of Charlottesville- based bluegrass bands Fair Weather Bums and High Society.  Spontaneous, original, and most assuredly uncompromised by the cookie cutter mentality that plagues much of today's music; Tochterman’s playing has been called "the perfect mix of songwriting and serendipity."

The August 5 event will be held at Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery, located near Route 250 in Afton at 9423 Batesville Road.  Admission is $10 and includes a complimentary wine glass.   Guests will also have the opportunity to learn more about The Paramount's 2006-07 Season, become a member of the theater, and purchase tickets.
