The Paramount's 2005-2006 movie series will continue in April with the epic 1956 classic The Ten Commandments on Thursday, April 13.
Legendary silent film director Cecil B. DeMille didn't greatly alter the way he made movies after sound came in, and this biblical drama is proof of that. A remake of De Mille's own 1923 silent movie of the same name, The Ten Commandments is Cecil B. De Mille's most spectacular and last film. This blockbuster was the highest-earning live-action film of the 1950s.
This epic account of the liberation of the Hebrew people from Egyptian bondage stars Charlton Heston as Egyptian prince Moses. Born a Hebrew slave, and raised as the Pharaoh's adopted son by royal Egyptian Pharaoh Sethi (Sir Cedric Hardwicke), Moses helps in the construction of the giant pyramids. Banished by his half-brother Rameses II (Yul Brynner) when his true race is discovered, Moses' exile ultimately leads him to confront the Pharaoh, and to guide the enslaved Israelites to freedom. The film also stars Anne Baxter as Princess Nefretiri. Many scenes feature spectacular visual effects, such as the burning bush, the many deadly plagues are masterfully done, the parting of the Red Sea, and the creation and delivery of the Ten Commandments.
The Ten Commandments will show at 7 pm on Thursday, April 13. Tickets are $6 (with a Youth/Child price of $4 applying to those 18 and younger) and are available in advance through the theater's Box Office at 434.979.1333.
Additional movie titles will be shown at The Paramount throughout the 2005-2006 Season. The complete schedule is available online.
