For Immediate Release

When the history of modern bluegrass is written, few will loom larger in the telling than Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. The group's dynamic music weds Southern gospel to bluegrass and speed to intricate vocals in a trademark sound that has established them as one of the best in 'grass today. Lawson and Quicksilver will bring this landmark style to a powerful evening of bluegrass at The Paramount Theater on Friday, December 2 at 8:00 pm.

Born in 1944 in East Tennessee, where he still makes his home, Doyle Lawson grew up enthralled by the singing he heard in church, the country, gospel and rhythm, and blues he heard on the radio. Even as a youngster, he knew that he wanted a career in music. Lawson played with legendary musicians Jimmy Martin and His Sunny Mountain Boys, J. D. Crowe, the Kentucky Mountain Boys, and the Country Gentlemen in the 1960s and 70s before following a personal creative vision to create Quicksilver in 1979. Building on Lawson's deep mastery of the bluegrass tradition and his keen eye for a wide range of songs from both within and beyond the genre, Quicksilver created a new kind of sound, and a compelling new standard for vocal precision.

The group's innovation has been recognized with nine International Bluegrass Music Association honors, four Dove Awards, and three Grammy nominations. Alumnae of the band have gone on to perform in such groups as IIIrd Tyme Out, Mountain Heart, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, the Lonesome River Band and Blue Highway. With current members Barry Scott, Jamie Dailey, J. W. Stockman, and Terry Baucom, Lawson has not only achieved a legendary status of his own, but is fielding a lineup that is, in the words of one critic, fully capable of making his best album ever.

Tickets to the December 2 Paramount concert are still available. Cost is $29, $26, and $23. Tickets may be purchased online and through The Paramount's Box Office at 434.979.1333.  For more information about Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, please visit www.doylelawson.com.
