Making modern dance accessible to the widest possible audience throughout the world is something that The Parsons Dance Company takes very seriously. Since 1987, the company has given over 1,500 performances on six continents --entertaining audiences with the energetic, creative, crowd-pleasing style that has become their trademark. On Wednesday, November 2, the company will land in Charlottesville for an evening of dance at The Paramount that will feature DMB, set to music of the town's most famous homegrown band.

DMB, one of the company's new works this season, sets movement to the Dave Matthew Band songs Satellite, Pantala Naga Pampa, When the World Ends, Out of My Hands, and Stay (Wasting Time). Also new and on The Paramount's program is Wolfgang, a tribute to Mozart drawing inspiration from another end of the musical spectrum. Other pieces scheduled for the evening include Slow Dance, a dance for three couples taking place in just in a 12 x12 box of light at center stage, and Caught, a signature solo using jumps and strobe lights to create the illusion of perpetual flight.

Educational activities are an important part of the company's visit to Charlottesville. On the day of the performance, a dance master class led by members of the company will be held at 2 pm at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center of Charlottesville. Cost for the class is $10, and advance registration is required. Contact Kristen Gleason at 434.979.1922 for more information or to register. Note -- the 11/2 Master Class is now FULL. The company will offer a post-performance discussion immediately following the evening show, giving audience members an opportunity to ask questions and interact with the dancers.

All activities will take place on Wednesday, November 2. Seats for the 8 pm performance are $41, $38, and $35. Youth/Child prices of $38, $35, and $32 are available for those 18 and younger. In addition, The Paramount offers half-price student rush tickets and group discounts. Tickets may be purchased online or through The Paramount's Box Office at 434.979.1333.  To learn more about The Parsons Dance Company, visit www.parsonsdance.org.
