For Immediate Release

September 16, 2005

The Paramount Theater is postponing its September 17 fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The movie benefit will now take place on Saturday, September 24 with the films National Velvet and My Fair Lady.

The showing of Hello, Dolly! originally planned for September 17 has been cancelled due to "the poor quality of the film print that the theater received," said Matthew Simon, Paramount Theater Box Office Manager. "There were several problems, including poor color and numerous scratches throughout the picture. As we desire to provide the best entertainment experience for our patrons, we felt it in our audience's best interest to not show this print."

The Paramount's previously scheduled "Day at the Movies" on September 24, featuring the classic films National Velvet at 2 pm and My Fair Lady at 7 pm, will now serve as the theater's Katrina relief benefit. All proceeds from the two films will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Tickets for the movies are $6, with a Youth/Child price of $4 applying to those 18 and younger. Tickets are on sale on now, and may be purchased by calling The Paramount's Box Office at 434.979.1333. This event is part of the Greater Charlottesville Katrina Relief Partnership, a consortium of local groups and organizations providing opportunities for the community to assist with Gulf Coast relief efforts.
