World-renowned vocalist, entertainer, and 5-time Grammy award-winner, Wynonna has sold in excess of ten million solo recordings, been awarded top Female Vocalist award by the Academy of Country Music, and celebrated 13 top ten hits. Throughout her 23-year career, she has enjoyed multiple gold and platinum albums including Wynonna, Tell Me Why, Revelations, and What the World Needs Now is Love.
A phenomenal music icon, Wynonna touches hearts and souls with her music and life story. With favorite hits and some unexpected covers, her powerful, soulful voice and presence will fill The Paramount Theater on Friday, September 21 at 8 pm. This concert has been made possible by Embarq, Signet Gallery, and Country 99.7 -- "THE Country Station for Charlottesville and the Valley."
Innovative, inspired and imaginative, Wynonna signed her first solo record deal in 1992. With vast critical acclaim, her first solo project, Wynonna, was certified for sales of over five million units and became the highest-selling debut album by a female artist at the time. A musical force like none other before her, Wynonna followed her wildly-successful debut with the multi-platinum disc, Tell Me Why, and the platinum-certified Revelations. Her greatest hits compilation, Collection, was released in 1997, the year which also found her gold record, The Other Side, flying from the shelves. Wynonna burst into 2000 with her fifth solo outing (New Day Dawning) as well as the third #1 debut album of her solo career (What the World Needs Now is Love), all the while celebrating her twentieth year in the music business.
Prior to this solo success, her time with The Judds -- one of the most celebrated success stories in country music history -- became a tale for the record books. In just six short years, The Judds sold more than 20 million records worldwide and won over 60 industry awards including five Grammy’s, nine Country Music Association Awards, and eight Billboard Music Awards. The Judds are universally-loved and still regarded as country music royalty for music fans around the globe.
Wynonna is presently on tour with some of the most revered symphony orchestras across the United States and is a highly sought after private event performer and public speaker. Scheduled to release her seventh studio album in 2008, Wynonna is reuniting yet again with the powerhouse production team of Brent Maher, the producer responsible for the mega-hits and Grammy’s awarded to The Judds, and Don Potter, musical arranger and signature guitarist for many of The Judds and Wynonna’s solo projects.
Embracing her past with a new perspective, Wynonna says, "What I know for sure, is that I’m back to where I started: an 18 year-old girl sitting on the back porch playing and singing her heart out. I’m ready to begin the journey again."
Tickets for An Evening with Wynonna at The Paramount on Friday, September 21 are $74.50, $89.50, $99.50, and $119.50. Half-price student rush tickets and group discounts are also available.
