Combine meaningful music with a dashing and dynamic new country artist, and you have Blake Shelton. With hits including “Austin,” “The Baby,” “Some Beach”, “Goodbye Time,” and “Nobody But Me,” Shelton’s success is propelled by impressive vocals on great songs. Shelton’s latest tour will make a stop in Charlottesville for a concert at The Paramount Theater on Saturday, November 18 at 8 pm.
Special Media Sponsor for this event is 103.1 WJMA Today’s Country.
As an artist, Shelton has shown steady growth and momentum since his impressive self-titled debut. He moved to Nashville when he was merely 17, released his debut album in July of 2001, and immediately scored his first No. 1 hit, "Austin," that same month. Heralded by critics (Music Row magazine) and acknowledged by fans (Country Weekly), Radio & Records magazine named him Breakthrough Artist of 2001. Shelton’s debut album also spawned the wildly original prison break story song, “Ol’ Red,” and a year to the day after the album was released, it was certified gold.
Avoiding the so-called sophomore jinx, "The Baby," the first single from his second album The Dreamer, went to the top of the singles chart for three weeks. Fans helped propel the video for "Heavy Liftin'" (also from The Dreamer) to the No. 1 spot on GAC's weekly Top 20 Country Countdown. A third album, Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill, was released in 2004, along with a DVD, Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill: A Video Collection. That project generated “Some Beach,” which spent four weeks in the number one spot, and two other Top 10 hits -- his powerful take on Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time” and “Nobody But Me.” Shelton has chosen the amusing title Pure BS for his fourth recording. Forthcoming in 2007, the album’s first single “Don’t Make Me” is currently hitting the airwaves.
Despite all his professional achievements, Shelton has a unique vision for what will ultimately define his success as an artist. “I will never stop looking for that next level of my career and how to get there, but not for the reasons that a lot of people want to get there,” he says. “I’m not chasing a dollar and I’m not trying to be the king of the mountain. I want to be that guy who, when some old guy is driving down a back road somewhere 20 years from now, he still has one of my old CDs that he’s been listening to all that time.”
“I want to make those albums that [last] forever that people never throw away. When they break it they go buy another one because I sing songs that they really relate to and my music means something to them. That’s what I’m chasing.”
Seats for the November 18 concert with Blake Shelton are $55, $50, $47, and $44. Students may obtain half-price student rush tickets at the Box Office with a valid ID 45 minutes prior to curtain.
