Paramount Presents: The Apartment [Approved]
Movies | 06/25/2017 | 2:00PM
Insurance worker C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) lends his Upper West Side apartment to company managers as a hideaway for their private trysts. When Baxter allows his manager Mr. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray) to use his apartment in exchange for a promotion, Baxter must decide if the arrangement is worth his own love story with the elevator girl (Shirley MacLaine) – who happens to also be Mr. Sheldrake’s mistress.
Did You Know?
- The film’s classic last line, “Shut up and deal,” was thought up by the writers at the last minute on-set.
- Billy Wilder and A.L. Diamond would allow not even the slightest deviation from their script. Shirley MacLaine drove them crazy with her ad-libbing. She was forced to do one of the elevator scenes five times because she kept missing one word.
- Billy Wilder created memo pads and stationery with Sheldrake’s name on them, even though no one but Fred MacMurray ever saw them.
