This 1977 “Rockumentary” directed by Jerry Garcia chronicles The Grateful Dead’s five-night run at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom at the conclusion of their 1974 tour. Featuring interviews with band members including Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Phil Lesh, the film has been lauded for its focus on the band’s fans and their commitment to the “Deadhead” community.

- The Winterland Auditorium where the Dead recorded these shows is the same venue where The Band staged The Last Waltz. It was demolished two years later.
- Jerry Garcia was missing two-thirds of his right middle finger. His older brother accidentally chopped it off with an axe while steadying firewood when Jerry was 4 years old.
- Between 1965 and 1995, The Grateful Dead played over 2,300 shows.
