Set to Georges Bizet’s unforgettable music, 1820 Spain is the locale in this ballet retelling centering on the beautiful, sultry, flirtatous Carmen and her passionate, tragic affair with the jealous sergeant Don Jose. Founded in 1966 as the first Theatre of Ballet in Russia under the management of Professor Peter Gusev (the People's Artist of Russia), St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre’s mastery of the high traditions of Russian ballet is evident in this performance, as well as its entire repertoire of 80-plus classical and modern ballets.
