7:30 pm

As the jazz orchestra in residence at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra enriches understanding and appreciation of jazz and its development within the context of American history.  Continuing a vibrant tradition of historically-authentic performances, the orchestra’s 17-piece unit interprets Big Band Jazz classics both familiar and rare from Ellington, Goodman, Basie, Armstrong, Gillespie, and many more.  Led by renowned composer, conductor, musician, and educator David Baker, the orchestra is truly a national treasure.

There will be an Open Rehearsal and a Pre-Performance Discussion with members of the Orchestra.
