Committed to illuminating works both old and new in a profoundly unique manner, The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has been thrilling music lovers for 33 years. The orchestra's numerous distinctions include a Grammy Award and recognition as Musical America's Ensemble of the Year. Orpheus has collaborated with many great artists of our time, and will be joined on this occasion by violinist Gil Shaham.

Shaham's 2006-07 season highlights include appearances with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras.  Among his more than two dozen concerto and solo CDs, are a number of best sellers that appear on record charts in the US and abroad.  These recordings have earned prestigious awards including multiple Grammys, a Grand Prix du Disque, Diaposon d'or and Gramophone Editor's Choice.    He plays the 1699"'Countess Polignac" Stradivarius.

The program for the evening is identical to that which will be presented at Carnegie Hall on April 14.   It includes Orphic Memories by Ingram Marshall, the second commission in The Cheswatyr New Music Initiative, a collaborative partnership between NPR, WNYC Radio, The Cheswatyr Foundation, The American Music Center, and The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

While the announced "world premiere" of  Orphic Memories will be at the Carnegie Hall performance, the ensemble will pre-premiere the piece at The Paramount.
