Momix Dance Theatre master class

A Momix master class is a movement- based exploration of the Momix style. This will include an explanation of thestyle, a behind the scenes look at what a Momix dancer’s life is like in the company, and discussion about the positive role the company plays in dance, all explored within the context of an hour and a half dance class. .

Momix style is natural choreography based on a gardening philosophy. Artistic director, Moses Pendleton, plants ideas into artists and cultivates them into full evening dances. These dances are a combination of movement, music, and lighting. The master class will inform the participants about what life is like dancing in a globe-trotting company. This behind-the-scenes insight will help participants understand conceptual elements. Momix portrays a sense of playfulness in their style, which will be touched upon as well. The dancers use their bodies and utilize props to convey movement concepts.

The class itself is broken down into a ten to fifteen minute warm up, across the floor movement,  and conclusion incorporating Momix ideas and concepts into role playing.  The improvisation will be organized, and the building of choreography as a group will be shown and shared. The placing of the improvisation and music together will be used to explore some theatrical concepts essential to Momix.

This lively and fun master class is geared to all ages, levels, abilities, and experiences. It is a good environment to connect and discuss dance as an art form.  Students come away from the class energized and open to new possibilities.
