Founded in 1926, the Martha Graham Dance Company is America’s oldest and most celebrated contemporary dance company. The troupe has performed in over 50 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Creator of an instantly-recognizable dance technique, Graham choreographed 181 ballets in her lifetime, including Lamentation (1930), Night Journey (1947), The Rite of Spring (1984), and Maple Leaf Rag (1990). This performance features the company’s 1944 masterwork Appalachian Spring, for which Aaron Copeland composed the famous accompaniment.
