“Mozart’s Magic Piccolo” is a wonderful way to introduce children and their families to the fun and magic of opera. This hour-long performance of excerpts in English from Mozart’s masterpiece The Magic Flute also features an interactive narration, lively printed educational materials, and souvenirs to take home. You’ll be introduced to the beautiful princess Pamina and prince Tamino with his magic flute, the powerful Queen of the Night and her counterpart in the realm of the day — Sarastro, and the adorable bird catcher Papageno who finally finds his counterpart, Papagena. You’ll also see local children playing the wild animals tamed by Tamino’s flute and the birdlike children of Papageno and Papagena. Families will not only have the opportunity to experience live, professional opera – with a full orchestra, sets, and costumes – but will also learn how an opera is put together. In between excerpts, you’ll see a set move, lights and costumes changed, how the Queen can sing so fast and high, and much more. This is a great way to make opera accessible and fun for the next generation!
